Welcome to VivaScoop, your monthly rundown on everything Vivacity Technologies.
Firstly, Happy Canada Day we hope you and your family enjoyed a relaxing and Canadian filled weekend. From our side, the long weekend was much needed, since the VivaTeam have been undertaking some phenomenal work, including getting close to our VivaCitadel launch with Kelowna, supporting Simpcw Resource Group with our virtual CIO services, and undertaking some super fun team actives. Naturally, June flew by but we have some exciting updates on today's overview, and lots to look forward to over the summer months.

Kicking off the Design Partners Program
To encourage municipality innovation and support the product development of VivaCitadel, Vivacity officially kicked off our Design Partners Program. Held by our team on June 20th, we were thrilled to be joined by the City of Kelowna, the City of Campbell River, and the City of Kamloops for this inaugural meeting. Through this meeting we had the opportunity to share the work we have been doing with the City of Kelowna to get VivaCitadel ready for deployment.
We would like to say a special thank you to Andreas Boehm from the City of Kelowna for sharing a bit about the work his team has done with ours to bring VivaCitadel to life! The City of Kelowna is a leader, shaping innovation in the municipal space. And having the opportunity to work on our platform with them has been incredible.
With our first Design Partners session being such a success, we are ramping up for our second session soon! However, just because the program has started does not mean that it is closed. Any municipalities who may be interested in joining can contact citadel@vvctec.com or visit our website to learn more!
Graduating the Creative Destruction Lab Compute Stream 2023/24
For the last 9 months, Vivacity has been participating in the Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) Compute Stream out of Vancouver. As of the beginning of June, Vivacity can proudly say that we have now successfully graduated from the program!
This start-up incubator focuses on helping scale businesses with potential for massive growth. The program was intensive and featured 4 sessions. In between each session ventures had to work towards ambitious goals for further growth and development of their enterprises. Achieving the aggressive goals and progressing through this program are not easy. Less than half of the initial intake cohort graduate the program.
The progress Vivacity made on VivaCitadel through the course of this program was immense, and hard fought. Our successful completion of this program is no small feat, and was accomplished through the incredibly hard work of the VivaTeam and the invaluable guidance from our mentors at each phase.
As a final step in our graduation, Stefano Stamato travelled to Toronto to attend the CDL Supersession, where graduates from CDL programs from around the world met to network, celebrate our collective success, and attend sessions to learn about the work completed by other ventures.
We are grateful for our time in the CDL program and know we are better for it!
Implementing the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Framework
The Center for Internet Security (CIS) framework acts as a guideline to keep organizations safe from cyber threats. It provides the ideal directions that the organization should follow to ensure they are cyber-compliant. Vivacity has been using this framework to assist one of our clients recently, giving them a way to test and improve their current cybersecurity infrastructure.
With the CIS framework implemented across the organization, their cybersecurity infrastructure would cover multiple aspects of potential cyber threats, which includes the identification and management of the various cybersecurity risks, the protection of their systems and data, detection and response to cybersecurity and malware threats, and the recovery process in the event of any unwanted cybersecurity incident.
If you want to know more about the CIS Framework and how it could improve your cybersecurity posture, contact us to learn more.
Honouring National Indigenous Peoples Day
On Friday, June 21st, people across Canada, the VivaTeam included, celebrated National Indigenous Peoples Day. National Indigenous Peoples Day serves as a day to celebrate the beauty of the heritage, cultures, and traditions of indigenous communities across the country as well as to remember the history and honour the resilience of Indigenous Peoples.
As both members of the Kamloops community and as trusted partners of our First Nations clients, we want to do our best to understand how Canada’s history has shaped the communities that we work with and live in, and how to be a better neighbour and collaborator. One of the best ways for us to do this is to embrace the stories of those around us, be willing to learn and to confront some uncomfortable realities, and to make space for voices other than our own.
This is why the Vivacity team decided to take a tour of the residential school here in Kamloops. Opened in 1890, the Kamloops Indian Residential School (KIRS) was the largest residential school in Canada, able to hold over 500 children. As any of you who have heard the stories of residential schools in our country will know, at least 215 students never left the grounds.
The team was truly humbled and heartbroken by the personal accounts and history we learned on our tour, and are immensely grateful for the vulnerability and knowledge shared with us by our guides. We encourage everyone who has the chance to take the time to learn about Canada’s dark history and take the time to learn about the beautiful cultures of our Indigenous neighbours that survived through their resilience and bravery.
