April 25th 2023, Kamloops, BC - Vivacity Technologies announced today the successful completion of funding through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) to support research and development in the Intelligent City and Living Lab (ICLL) space. The $100,000 of grant funding will be focused on an open data platform aimed at enhancing the efficiency and responsiveness of cities to current and future challenges.
“The platform aims to break down silos and offer data visibility, transparency, and timely alerts, helping empower communities and improve emergency responsiveness and forecasting” said George Emery, CEO at Vivacity Technologies. “Beyond a data platform we hope to foster collaboration within communities through our solution and transform municipalities into intelligent cities”.
Vivacity secured the NRC IRAP funding for the development of the open data platform. The project will involve creating an intelligent city infrastructure dashboard that displays and manages cities’ digital infrastructure, integrates data from various sources, and generates timely alerts. Additionally, Vivacity will develop data pipelines that integrate with a cloud tool suite, enabling secure consumption of data from IoT sensors and display on the data platform dashboard.
“Our primary focus is to provide efficient data management for intelligent city initiatives. This NRC IRAP funding will accelerate the implementation of the platform by allowing us to onboard additional talent, and support our growing relationships with municipalities”, said Stefano Stamato, Technical Product Manager at Vivacity Technologies.
The Vivacity Technologies roadmap includes a pilot project in British Columbia that will integrate data sources from IoT networks like LoRaWAN, allowing cities to gain visibility over their data, control access to resources, and accelerate future deployments while avoiding new silos. The focus will be on platform development to support current and future intelligent city initiatives, providing immediate value to municipalities, and enabling Vivacity to continually improve the platform beyond the completion of the initial IRAP project.
